Educated in Scotland and the U.S., I
earned a BA (hons.) degree from Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland
(1990) and an MFA in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale
(1995). I have received two Individual Excellence Awards from the Ohio Arts
Council and have exhibited my sculpture in numerous group and solo exhibits
across the U.S. My work has been reviewed in Art in America, New Art Examiner
and Sculpture magazines.
Before coming to the University of
Akron, I taught in the sculpture department at the University of Texas in Austin
for three years. I am now an Associate Professor of Art at the Myers School of
Art where I have taught 3-D Design and Sculpture since 1998. Currently holding
the position of Sculpture Coordinator, I have served on numerous school
committees. I am also the Vice-President for Programming at Spaces Gallery in
Cleveland.
My first formalized experience with
the Akron - AAUP was as departmental liaison during contract negotiations. I
have served as Secretary for the Executive Committee for two years and have
learned a lot about the complexities of contract implementation. The Akron-AAUP
has set a high standard for shared governance, working to resolve differences
with integrity and common sense while also being prepared to go to arbitration
when it must. I have enjoyed being part of this ethical and strategically canny
team, and would consider it an honor to be elected to serve again.

I’m an associate professor in the College of Education,
specializing in disability studies and special education. I’ve been actively
involved with faculty governance for years and strongly believe that together we
are able to do more, in all areas of University activities. I’d hope to be a
voice for strengthening the role of the Akron-AAUP in governance.
I would hope to build on and strengthen the role of the
Akron-AAUP in ensuring that members of the bargaining unit (and, to the extent
possible ALL members of the UA community) are treated fairly and that our voice
is heard.

After serving four years (two terms) as Chapter President I
took over the Treasurer's responsibilities from Russ Davis after his retirement
in May, 2007. I am running again for Chapter Treasurer for three reasons:
(1) I want to stay actively involved in chapter operations
throughout the remainder of this first contract cycle (as there is much work yet
to be done),
(2) I have a year of experience as the Chapter
Treasurer, and there is a steep learning curve with respect to several aspects of
the Treasurer's duties, and
(3) my previous experience and background on the Executive
Committee will help facilitate the execution of a number of
responsibilities currently involving the Treasurer - that would be difficult and
time-consuming for a "newcomer". |

Important Note:
To stand for election to the executive
committee, and to have a vote in these elections you must be a dues-paying
member of the chapter. The links below will be helpful.
